National Service Scheme;

National Service Scheme a noble experiment in Higher Education. The students get an opportunity to involve themselves in the process of national development. Shailabala Women€™s College- one of the oldest college in the state bears a glory of several activities under NSS.

After the process of admission was over the enrolment of the NSS volunteers was done followed by an orientation programme. In addition to normal activities of NSS special camps and other innovative activities were carried out in the college. The following activities were carried out in the college during the session 2015-16:-

ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN:

Plantation and Observation of Bana Mahotsav week

A massive plantation work was done in College campus by the NSS volunteers in collaboration with CMC where different flower and fruit bearing plants were planted in the College campus.

Gender Sensitization in collaboration with C.D.M.O. Cuttack

30.07.2014

A gender sentisation training programme was carried out in collaboration with C.D.M.O. Office, Cuttack and district administration. The ADMO, Cuttack and other dignitaries were the guest of the occasion. The principal S.B Women€™s College, Cuttack Dr. Sanjukta Mohapatra inaugurated the programme and Dr. S.S Swain Programme Officer NSS carried out the programme successfully.

Campus Cleaning-02.08.2014:-

A Massive campus cleaning drive was carried out on Dt.02.08.2014 in the college campus. Dr. S.S. Swain P.O. along with NSS Volunteers carried out the programme.

 

Disaster Management training Programme 22.08.2014 & 23.08.2014:-

A two days training programme on disaster management was organized in S.B. Women€™s College in collaboration with OSDMA, Bhubaneswar where around 100 students participated in the training. ODRAFT Team, Cuttack imported training and demonstrated many risk & rescue activities.

Campus Cleaning 30.10.2014:-

A massive campus cleaning was carried out in college campus in the Science Block where the teachers & 50 Volunteers participated in the cleaning drive.

Oriented on Special Camp 03.11.2014:-

An orientation on special camp was organized in the college campus in order to aware the volunteers on special camp to be organized from 05.11.2014 to 11.11.2014 at Historical Baliyatra Ground, Cuttack.

Special Camp 05.11.2014 to 11.11.2014:-:

A special camp was organized in Baliyatra Ground from 05.11.2014 to 11.11.2014. Awareness programmes were carried out on cleanliness, HIV/AIDS, Safe Drinking water environment protection, Ban of Polythin etc. Twenty Five Volunteers Participated.

Active Citizenship 22.11.2014:-

An active citizenship programme was organized in the college in collaboration with Govt. of Odisha, Dept. of Sports and Youth Services. Five themes were covered in a video show where the students were made aware. Around 200 volunteers participated in the programme.

Mega Blood Donation Camp dt.16.12.2014

A mega blood donation camp was organized in the college campus on dt.16.02.2014 in collaboration with NSS Bureau Utkal University where 118 units of blood were collected.

Workshop on Education and Career Counseling: dt.15.01.2015

A workshop on Educational Career Counseling was organized by NSS unit in collaboration with Brain Child organization. Many teachers and around 100 students participated in the programme.

Gender Sensitization Training dt.06.02.2015:-

A gender sensitization training programme was organized in collaboration with District Administration, Cuttack where many students and teachers participated in the programme.

Active citizenship dt.21.02.2015:-

An active citizenship video show programme was organized in the college in collaboration with Govt. of Odisha, Deptt. of Sports and Youth Services; where 200 students participated and took active part in the discussion.

Observation of International Women€™s Day 08.03.2015

International Women€™s day was observed in the college where Dr. B.C Swain was the Chief Guest. He addressed the students and a quiz competition was organized & prizes were distributed to the students. 50 Volunteers participated in the programme.

Socio-Economic Survey at Pattapolla dt.11.04.2015 & 12.04.2015

A socio-economic survey was carried out in the adopted village Pattapolla. The students went to door to door and had a survey of the community (adopted village, Pattapolla).

Observation of International Yoga Day dt.21.06.2015:-

International Yoga Day was observed in the college campus in collaboration with Prajapitta Brahma Kumaris, Jhanjiri Mangala Branch. The students and teachers of the college participated in the programme.

 

Plantation and Observation of Bana Mahotstav Week dt.01.07.2015 to 07.07.2015

A massive plantation programme and observation of Bana Mahotstav Week was observed in the College campus and outside campus in collaboration with ECO Club of the College. The CMC provided the plants for the plantation work. The Principal of the college the Mayor of Cuttack City, the Staff Members and 100 NSS Volunteers participated in the programme.

National Youth Day dt.12.01.2016:-

National Youth Day was observed in the college on 12.01.2016. The principal inaugurated the programme along with Chief Guest Prof. Bhagwan Prakash and guest of Honour Dr. Manoranjan Mohanty, Dr. S.S Swain and Dr. T. Mohapatra organized the programme.

Training Programme on Entrepreneurship Development

dt.12.01.2016 to 16.01.2016

A training programme on Entrepreneurship Development was organized in the college campus in collaboration with ICT Academy Tamilnadu and RGNIYD Sriperumbudur, Chennai where 40 NSS Volunteers participated in the training programme.

NSS Special Camp:- dtd.12.01.2016 to 18.01.2016

A special camp of 100 volunteers’of NSS was organized in Shailabala Women’s College from dt-12.01.16 to 18.01.16.The camp was inaugurated Dr. Sanjukta Mohapatra, Principal with Prof (Dr.) Bhagwan Prakash, Sr. Advisor to Chief Election Commissioner, Govt, of India as the Chief Guest and Dr. Manoranjan Mohanty, Programme Co-ordinator, NSS, Utkal University as Guest of Honour. The Chief Guest explained the role of youth in National development as it was the National Youth day and Swami Vivekananda Jayantee, Mr. Manoranjan Mohanty explained various activities and aspects of NSS, Dr. Surekha Sundari Swain P.O. NSS gave the introduction of the guests and Dr. Tanuja Mohapatra, P.O, NSS offered the vote of thanks. The camp was conducted with routine activities. The following topics were covered during the camp as explained by different resource persons.

The valediction ceremony was held on 18.01.16 and the Principal, Dr. Sanjukta Mohapatra distributed certificates to the students/volunteers. Dr. Tanuja Mohapatra P.O, NSS Unit-II rendered a vote of thanks. The activities of the NSS Volunteers were highly appreciated by all.

Observation of Road Safety Week dt.16.01.2016

The NSS Volunteers along with the Red Cross team of the college went on a road safety rally around the Cuttack City on dt.16.01.2016 in order to make the people aware about the road safety.

 School bag and Study Kit Distribution dt.16.02.2016

A special programme was organized in Gandhi Vidyapitha Pattapolla where 50 school bags and study kits were distributed to the poor and meritorious students. The principal & P.O.s carried out the programme which was appreciated by the community.

 

  1. International Women€™s Day:- dt.08.03.2016

International Women€™s Day was celebrated by the NSS Units of the College. Various competitions were organized among the volunteers and a meeting was held in the P.G. Hostel where Dr. Bimal Charan Swain was the Chief Guest and Dr. Bandana Pattnaik was the Guest of Honour.

  1. International Yoga Day:- dt.21.06.2016

International Yoga Day was observed by the NSS Units of the College. A meeting was organized in the college with the Principal Dr. S. Mohapatra in the chair followed by Yoga practices. Borther Nathmal, Sister Leena and many others of €œPrajapita Brahma Kumari€™s Iswariya Biswa Vidyalaya€ were the guests, who delivered different topics on Yoga.

  1. Dengue Awareness Campaign:- dt.11.08.2016

A rally and different activities were organized for Dengue awareness in Cuttack city. Students go on a rally giving different slogans to keep the city clean and use mosquito net.

  1. Triranga Yatra

With the instruction from Govt. of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Triranga Yatra was organized in the college in order to mark the 70th Year of India€™s Independence. A Padayatra was held along with meeting and competitions.

  1. Beti Bachao Susakt Banoo, dt.05.11.2016 & 07.11.2016

A Special Programme on Save the Girl Child and empower them was organized on dt.05.11.2016 in collaboration with Prajapita Brahma Kumari€™s in Satabdi Bhawan. His Excellency the Governor of Jharkhand Mrs. Draupadi Murmu and many other guests of National importance were present on the occasion. On 07.11.2016 an awareness programme was organized in New Hostel of S.B. Women€™s College, Cuttack where many sisters and brothers of Prajapita Brahma Kumari€™s from Delhi and Mumbai delivered talks on how to save the girl child and respect the women.

  1. Baliyatra Special Camp:- dt.18.11.2016 to 24.11.2016

A Special Camp was organized in Baliyatra where different awareness programmes like Ban of Polythene, Stale Food, Environmental Awareness were organized followed by rally & distribution of hand bills. The Officials of ORMAS and Bank Authorities appreciated the venture of College Students and NSS volunteers.

  1. Health Checkup Camp in Pattapolla:- dt.02.12.2016

A health checkup camp was organized in Gandhi Vidyapitha, Pattapolla for the school children and people of the community. Dr. Pusparani Mohapatra checked the health of 70 nos. of students and people of the locality and made them aware of health and hygiene. Many parents were called and instructed different health care of their children.

  1. Health and Hygiene Awareness Campaign:- dt.06.12.2016

An awareness campaign was organized in Pattapolla for the slum dwellers women to make them aware about the health, hygiene, environment, safe drinking water, sending children to school regularly etc. Around 30 women participated in the programme. The School Head Master and teachers rendered co-operation in this regard.
